Primary Drivers
- Rural India does not have the infrastructure to allow rural
citizens to access online services, credit/debit cards based
transactions, basic banking and e-governance services.
- India being primarily a cash based economy, the majority of
transactions are currency based leading to issues of cash management
for service providers
- Being unbanked, rural India also has very little access to
credit facilities due to lack of unified credit rating agencies
- Internet, PC penetration and lack of literacy also ensure
that it will be a long time before rural India comes at par
with the major cities in terms of access, services, banking,
credit and security
- There exists a large gap between banked and un-banked India
due to lack of infrastructure for enabling cash deposits, cash
withdrawals and transaction acceptance points of services
- Rural economy has been getting its nourishment from schemes
like NREGA and Bharat Nirman Yojana. The current government
has increased NREGA outlay by 144 percent and Bharat Nirman
outlay by 45 percent.
- The current government has also proposed to provide health
insurance cover to all BPL families under Rashtriya Swasthya
Bima Yojana (RSBY) and to enroll 50 percent of rural women in
the country as members of Self Help Groups (SHG). This will
provide financial empowerment to rural women and result into
their betterment.
- All over the country, millions of Kisan Credit Cards (KCCs)
have been issued till date but there is no infrastructure to
accept these transactions.
